The GRID Semiannual Facility Report provides valuable comparative statistics, such as patient wait time and turnaround time, and can help you identify opportunities for improvement by comparing your facility’s performance to peers and national benchmarks.
Reports are posted semi-annually with results for January through June and July through December.
Reports are available in both PDF and Excel formats and are available for download under the Aggregate Reports menu item in the NRDR Homepage Facility Management menu. A sample PDF report is available here.
The rest of this article briefly describes each section of the PDF version of the report. You can also listen to our webinar on How to Read your GRID Reports for more information.
Measure Definitions
The Measures Definitions table provides a brief description of each measure listed in the report. There are four types of process measures, available to all participants, with Wait Time and Turnaround Time statistics by modality (Radiography, Ultrasound, CT, MRI, and PET).
GRID Facilities Map
The GRID Facilities map displays the geographic distribution of facilities that contributed data for the given reporting period, grouped by Census Region.
The map provides a visual representation of which facilities are included in the Regional comparison statistics in the report.
GRID Measures Summaries
Summary tables provide results for Process and Outcome measures for each facility compared to each of four peer groups:
Sites in the same volume category (< 50,000 exams, 50,000 – 150,000 exams; > 150,000 exams)
Sites in the same Census Region
Sites of the same Type (e.g. Academic, Community Hospital, etc.)
All GRID sites
Table cells are left blank for categories for which a facility was unable to provide data.
All participants receive a table of process measures and Gold Level participants also receive a table of results for outcome measures.
The table is also available for download in Excel format.
Comparative Statistics
Three types of statistics show how your facility compares to the rest of the facilities in GRID:
Facility characteristics show the number of active facilities by
Facility Type
Location
Number of radiologists
Census Region
Total volume of exams
Structural measures indicate how many facilities use the following systems in their practice
Fluoro time routinely reported
Electronic report access 24/7
Voice recognition software used for reporting purposes
Access to images 24/7
Radiologist consult required before ordering image
Decision support available on order-entry system
Patient satisfaction survey specific to radiology in regular use
The Protocols charts provide counts of how many facilities in GRID have written protocols for
Nephrotoxicity management
Pregnancy screening
Allergy screening
Communication of critical results
Communication of critical tests
Infection control
MR safety screening
Measure Variation Tables and Charts
The report provides detailed statistics for each process measure including number of sites measured, mean, median, standard deviation, and quartiles. Tables include statistics for all comparison groups while charts include trends for sites of the same facility type and the nation (all GRID sites). The measured facility’s rank is also provided as compared to other facilities in the same Census Region, facilities of the same Type, and all GRID facilities.
Reports include results for outcomes and incidents as well as process measures.
