Remote Scanning and Accreditation

The ACR supports the use of remote scanning as long as it is conducted in a manner that promotes patient safety, image quality and personnel development. The ACR Position Statement on Remote Scanning suggests that ACR accreditation will apply the guidance contained in the statement and many sites will question how this affects current accreditation and if there will be a penalty against accredited facilities who are not performing remote scanning per the guidance provided in the ACR position statement.
At this time, there are no immediate changes to accreditation. The accreditation committees will carefully review and determine if changes to accreditation requirements are needed. Currently, staffing is not directly evaluated during accreditation review. However, if there is a question of inadequate staffing or safe practices at an ACR accredited facility, the ACR reserves the right to request a response from the facility to ensure appropriate safety procedures are being followed and performed at the facility.
